I’ve had a lot of deaths around me lately. When my dog died it hit me very very hard because she was with me for 17 years. We had her mom and dad, so she was there since she was born. Nine months later, my daddy died. We were home alone, mom went to bingo. I moved back home to take care of dad. Well, in the middle of our show he got up and asked me to follow him to turn on his O2 (oxygen) and C-pap. I asked if I should call 911 and he said no.

I proceeded to do what he had asked when he said, “Char, I think we waited too long to call 911…” I immediately grabbed his nitro bottle and put three under his tongue and dialed 911. Well, the first thing I said was, “I’m medically trained, my dad is having a heart attack. He needs an ambulance at 957 Ponytail” and said the rest of my address.

This lady, bless her heart, says “ma’am calm down”. Meanwhile, my dad had already hit the ground. I flipped him over on floor lifted his neck cleared his mouth. What I’ve found really shook me – the nitro pills never dissolved, which meant his heart had stopped. I still did CPR, hoping he will come to life. Meanwhile, this lady on the phone said: “I’m going to help you do CPR”. I told her that I’ve been doing it for 10 minutes already! Then she confirmed the address and hung up. I stopped with the CPR and looked at my dad’s eyes, fixed and dilated. I tried to feel his pulse, but there was none. It was the most BEAUTIFUL/HORRIFYING moment of my whole life.

My brain protected me.

I went through the motions for three months and don’t remember ONE DAY! Then the depression, anxiety, and PTSD set in. That is my story. I’m crying as I type this, but I wanted to share this with you.
